Graham Sinclair (@esgarchitect) runs an independent advisory practice at the intersection of investment, strategy and sustainability. He began his career in retirement funds, moved to institutional investment, and has specialized in sustainable investment since 2004. His engagements include AIG Global Investors Group, the Principles for Responsible Investment, Gates Foundation, International Finance Corporation, and CFA Institute. His TEDx "Investing As If The Future Matters" was ranked top 5 in ESG by the global investment industry’s CFA Institute. In Africa he led the IFC’s two year Sustainable Investment in Sub-Saharan Africa project, advised the US$5bn AuM China-Africa Development Fund on opportunities for impact investing in Africa, benchmarking the impact of all 32 private equity funds operating since 1998 managed for the African Development Bank portfolio by limited partners. In 2019, Graham was invited to be an investment mentor to the MIT D-Lab for their East Africa cohort. He has served as judge and lecturer on Africa business case and innovation competitions at Columbia University, Harvard Business School, MIT Sloan Business School and Wharton Business School. His most recent academic contribution is in “Research Handbook of Finance and Sustainability” (Edward Elgar, 2018). Graham was invited to the inaugural cohort of the WWF One Planet Leaders Programme in Switzerland, holds an MBA from the Villanova School of Business (co-launching the first-ever student-managed ESG long-only fund and consulting at The John Templeton Foundation), and an LL.B from the University of Natal.
